Merry Christmas and Beware of Santa Claus

With the holidays upon us, the name of Santa Claus is being used for evil rather than good by worm developers, who have targeted major instant-messaging systems with a holiday-themed virus.

The IM.GiftCom.All worm has made an appearance on several messaging networks, including America Online, Microsoft MSN, and Yahoo. The worm attempts to dupe you into believing that a friend has sent you a link to a harmless file. If you click on the file, you see an image of Santa. While viewing it, the worm attempts to install a rootkit on your system. Rootkits are frequently used to circumvent security software and give an attacker remote control of a machine. Once the attacker is inside your system, the worm harvests your instant-message contact lists for subsequent infections.

please be careful
and happy holidays to all

Google OS? 2010?

It isn't that far fetched that Google might bring out their own Operating System.
and think about this, it might just be free like all their other nice programs.
Probably have ads in the OS.

I think I would definitely go for it when it comes out.
sooner or later, we can store our datas in google's hard drive and it be free.
The way Gmail is always increasing space as each second goes by, you never know what might happen.

they are rated 4 stars out of 5 from download.com.

www.Avast.com is great for webshielding(firewall), auto updates for you, and much more.

always uninstall one of them to install the other.

If you have two anti-virus program running at the sametime, they detect each other as viruses(most of the time, but not all).

Nokia Launches 3G Phones

Finally in America!!!
Took a long time for it to come here. Hong Kong had it for ever now.
Nokia gave no pricing details for the phone, which it unveiled on a day of presentations to investors in New York.
In case you do not know what 3G (third generation), they are cellphones that can talk with video, sorta like a webcam on a cellphone.

I think the first year, not everyone will have it because the prices are going to be too high.
Eventually when prices drops, thats when everyone will have it.

Viruses Finds a New Place to Attack

Media Players/Files are being target for the new market of viruses.
Installing things YOU NEED might get you viruses.
Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and AOL Instant Messenger also suffered from serious reported vulnerabilities, as did RealPlayer and iTunes.

5 or 6 years ago, we were worried about viruses, so ANTIVIRUS programs came out and got rid of them from window files and system files. Now we have to worry about them once again because its back in a different market.

Make sure you update your anti-virus definitions. Some Anti-virus programs are working on this problem.

Update On Sony

Sony BMG Music Entertainment will stop selling 50 CD titles with the XCP content protection software.
Turns out Bloggers were all posting about how bad it is that Sony was doing this.
Sony also said it will remove the discs from stores, and offer replacements without copy protection to customers.
So at least we know Sony will listen to their customers, because CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT.

note = I DO NOT BELIEVE IN CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT

New Windows OS - VISTA Problem???

If you guys haven't heard, well probably next summer Microsoft will be coming out a New Windows called Windows Vista.
This OS is all about security and more security.

Win Vista was orginally called Longhorn.
Sure this sounds really good for security, but how will it change the whole experience/use that you got used to?

They are so strict into security that when inserting a new high definition DVD you won't be able to watch it on the new computer, even if it is a HIGH-END computer.

If your monitor doesn't support PVP-OPM, then all you will see is fuzzyness - it is a warning that shows you that the display has been revoked.
Many DVDs in the future will be Blu-Ray and HD-DVD prevents most dvd players to stop displaying any motions.
According to Microsoft, PVP-OPM is to prevent bootlegging and ripping [sharing on the internet via downloading] DVDs.

PVP-OPM: Protected Video Path Output Protection Management. Downgrades video resolution or blocks the picture entirely if the connected display doesn't support content protection.

In my opinion, this will cause a lot of people not to buy Win Vista, since this might cause so many problems to most users that love watching movies on the PC.

TELEVISION IS WHERE YOU FIND IT

Technology Writer By Sandra Pianin.

The Fall of 2005 will be remembered as an extraordinarily exciting time in the history of television! All of the rules about television have been scattered in the wind and nobody knows just where they they will land. Just think you can get "Desperate Housewives" on your iPod, Jay Leno's opening monologue on your cell phone, Brian Williams delivering that day's news on your computer, and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" available whenever you want to watch it.

The most interesting deal to occur has been between Apple and Walt Disney Co. Walt Disney is allowing reruns of "Lost" and other programs available for downloading to iPods for $1.99. Three weeks has gone by and Apple says that more than a million videos have been sold.

135 Million Year Old Fossil Found

A bizarre marine crocodile that lived 135 million years ago in what is now Argentina had the head of a dinosaur and the tail of a fish, palaeontologists said today.
Imagine a T-Rex with flippers living under sea.

This sort of like a crocidile back in the dino years.

There isn't much about this dinosaur yet, but it most likely fed on reptiles.
Scientists are calling this beast, "GODZILLA"

Sony Attacks Pirates

Sony are making CDs that will install a program that hacks into the innermost working of the system to insure the program stays hidden.
This hack is known as the "rootkit". This rootkit was an open doors to hackers to hide spywares and etc.
If a user discover the rootkit with a rootkit detector, it will disable their cd/dvd rom drive, only if they try to remove it.
Now digital movies are easy to reproduce without any loss of quality, so having this rootkit should be the way to go.
The down side of this whole situation is it is hard to even make a legal copy for yourself.
This kind of puts the dvd-writeable into no use if this rootkit becomes very successful.

BUT on the other hand, we all know that there are a few hackers that are very smart and they would be able to hack back the rootkit that Sony made.

I remember when PS2 games and some DVDs couldn't be ripped, but eventually it just took a month or two for hackers to figure it out and boom it was all over the internet.

22 Year old Mother offered her 4 year old child for $500 to sexual predators.

The police was having electronic chats and they asked about having sex with the 4 year old. The mother then offered $500. Thats when they got a warrant and arrested her.

I can't believe there are people that are like this. i know there are people like this, but to do it in the public, especially CRAIGSLIST???? Thats just asking to get arrested.

Windows' Automatic Updates

Are they annoying or what?
Well, Newest windows update has crashed many PC users around the country.
Programs aren't running, windows won't log in properly.
I had someone called me and told me this problem. I have a friend that told me the same exact problem. It was October's Update. Funny thing is that windows always have updates to fix problems, but yet it causes even more problems.

Now they can't go back to restore point and have to lose their data.

I hardly ever update my PC with those auto microsoft. My computer runs much better than most people. If there isn't anything wrong with the computer don't download something to fix it when there isn't anything to fix in the first place.

by the way, click on the ads above. It will help me out a lot. Thanks.

File Sharing

It's another one, Grokster Ltd. has agreed to stop distributing the program/software that allows users to copy songs over the internet. They lost to the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday.

Honestly, I never even heard of Grokster.

They didn't went just after the users, they went after the program makers. Seems that they are taking a strong attack on this one.

They are going for the programmers to stop distributing or else get sued a whole bunch of money. Seems that the industry is going back to normal again. No more illegal downloading.

I don't agree with the above said. We all know that one program gets shut down, then another program will come around and everyone will use it.

Remember Napster? When at a point Napster died, Kazaa took over, then iMesh and any p2p file sharing programs.

When will this stop? They should maybe concentrate on the country and the world, instead of concentrating on suing childrens and programmers. The country wanted people to get jobs so the government can get tax money. But when programmers gets a job, they have to stop doing what they were learning to do in the first place.

So tell me, country, why do you make us go to college and learn all those useless things and make us work to give you tax money and yet the stuff we learned aren't allowed to be used in its potential for a new invention? Please Tell Me...

Laptop for every KID for $100

Laptop for $100. Its a global effort.
AMD, Brightstar, Google, News Corporation, and Red Hat are backing the effort, and Brazil is likely to be a manufacturing center for the notebooks.
OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) is a non-profit venture that is going to distribute 100 to 200 millions laptop in 2007.
They are targeting poor children.

So Question is HOW can you make and sell a laptop for $100?
Well turns out that they will be using $30 LCD that are found in inexpensive DVD players; it can use in bright sunlight and it goes up to 4 times the resolution.
It will be run in Linux - free operating system. Built in Wi-Fi, 500mhz, and 1GB of storage.

Being poor doesn't have to mean being disconnected.
If you ask me, I want one and I would probably just upgrade it.

Virtual Library

Internet... What is the first thing that comes to your mind?
I say GOOGLE. Some may say E-mails, Businesses, Hacks, and others.

Funny thing is that now you can find books via Internet.
Google is working on making virtual library.
Microsoft also doing the same thing.
This all will lead to ONE THING and that is PROBLEMS.

Books publishers and Authors filed lawsuits to prevent scanning.

Scanning/Photo Copying Breaks Copyrights
Google's defense is that it will only show 20% of the documents.

Honestly, Google should keep up the work. I am pretty sure that these "authors" uses search engine themselves. They should realize that if your book is that good, you shouldn't worry that people won't buy them. True fans will buy them, thats where the real money comes from anyways.
If they don't want to lose money, just publish it via internet. Be up to date already.
I know some of you might think that, People want to bring them while traveling.
Well then my answer to that would be, PRINT it out. Inks are cheap nowadays.
Just get a generic brand and print it out. Cheaper than buying the book.

Here is a site for you to buy some good cheap inks www.123inkjets.com

E-mails

Anyone reading this would most likely have an e-mail address, maybe more.
E-mail is one of the greatest things to send texts, documents, pictures and much more.
E-mail is more efficient than regular MAIL via post office.
You can receive or send an email within 1 minute.
Even Fax can be received and sent via e-mail.
one of the best e-mails that are out and FREE are Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo mail.

If you want to receive an invitation for gmail, which is currently 2661MB and counting of storage, so you do not have to ever delete an email again.

www.hotmail.com and www.yahoo.com just sign up for those.
Getting a fax, go to www.EFax.com sign up for a free one, but it won't be your local number.

if you want to send emails, go to http://www.tpc.int/faxbyemail.html
for information.

Basically just put this in your email "To:"
remote-printer.recipient_name@fax_number.iddd.tpc.int

Spywares & Adwares Attacking Your PC

You know, Chances are there is 90% that your computer is infected with spyware(s) and adware(s). You can be fully protected even if the BEST program that claims it as long as you have it running on your computer.
Google these programs so that you can clean them up manually.

Ad-aware, Spybot: Search & Destroy, and Spy Sweeper.

Also the BEST free Anti-Virus program that also gets rid of adwares is www.avast.com
Avast is highly recommended by me.

Free version of Avast is only for home users. Commercial business users must pay for the program which is the PROFESSIONAL version.

If you are not using the internet, then shut down the cable modem to prevent anything infecting your network.

PLUS IT WILL MAKE YOUR INTERNET A BIT FASTER THAN LETTING IT RUN ALL THE TIME.

Be Safe.

Grandpa gets Sued for Grandson's Downloads....

67 yr. old man

The Motion Picture Association of America filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against Fred Lawrence of Racine. They are looking for $600,000 for downloading 4 Movies.

The suit in March had settle that he should be paying $4,000.
His grandson, 12, didn't realize it was illegal to download those movies via iMESH.

The movies that were downloaded were "The Incredibles," "I, Robot," "The Grudge," and "The Forgotten" in December. In his house, he owned 3 movies on DVD.
But the argument was that while doing P2P a.k.a. Peer-to-Peer.
He was also uploading to thousands of other users.

I suggest you guys stop using imesh, limewire, and kazaa or any p2p.
Downloading isn't the part you get caught, its when you uploading while downloading that gets you caught.

AOL Instant Messenger WORM

Most people uses AIM/AOL IMs.
Well there is a worm that is spreading via IMs. It is a link that can spread to a company as little as 10 minutes.

Don't click on the link unless you are positive what it is.
Always ask the other person what the link is.

Alternative ways to use IMs is Skype, GoogleTalk, Yahoo, and MSN.

Bird Flu infects PC around the world

Email subject lines such as "Outbreak In North America" and "What is Avian Influenza"
attached is a word document thats the Naiva.A virus.
Spell Naiva backwards gets you Avian.

This virus modifies, creates, and deletes files on the PC. The worst part is the 2nd.
It installs a program that lets hackers to control the PC.

Advice: Don't open any emails with attachments that you do not know who its from. And don't open anything that talks about Avian Flu. Just google the word and you'll get information.

Right now there isn't a cure for the PC to fully get rid of it.
